Gaza Amputee International Network
GAIN (Gaza Amputee International Network) was initiated in 2024 by The Little Wings Foundation in response to the catastrophic number of children suffering amputations during the conflict in Gaza. As reported by CNN in January 2024, an average of more than ten children per day have lost one or more limbs, creating a generation-altering crisis. In the resource-poor environment of Gaza, where even basic surgical care is a challenge, the long-term rehabilitation for these children is virtually nonexistent.
An overwhelming need for prosthetic devices, wheelchairs, and lifelong care is anticipated for years to come. Without the ability to move independently and attend school, these children face a future of dependency, with limited opportunities for growth and development. The GAIN project is a direct response to this urgent need, empowering children by providing access to prosthetics and comprehensive support wherever possible, thereby restoring mobility, hope, and the chance for a fulfilling future.
To deliver this vital care across the region, the GAIN network operates through projects in Egypt and Jordan, working closely with a coalition of dedicated partners. We are proud to collaborate with organizations such as KinderRelief, Wings For Hope Project, Participation for All, the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF), and HEAL Palestine.
This powerful alliance, combined with our strategic partnerships with orthotics and prosthetic centers in the UAE and the Middle East, enables the construction of high-quality devices at the lowest cost and ensures a sustained, life-changing impact for the children we serve.
GAIN also focuses on building capacity and supports young Gazan amputees who wish to become orthotists themselves. In collaboration with Human Study and Legacy of War Foundation, we have been able to provide a training opportunity for one of our former patients. We look forward to supporting her in completing the internationally recognized degree as an Orthotics technician in the future.
